Just released JWildfire V0.51 which I'm really proud to present.

All those problems with starting the application and using wrong settings etc. should now be resolved … because I have created an own JWildfire-dedicated launcher!
To make it even more sweet the JWildfire users group did a contest for creating images which are displayed in the launcher. So you are always welcomed with a nice image :-)
JWildfire V0.51 Launcher by thargor6

Additionally there are about 20 new variations available… most of them are supporting the 3D mode :-)

Complete list of changes:
- created a own JWildfire launcher (as separate application), removed the previously used launcher ("appstart")
- included 15 images from the launcher image voting contest into the launcher
- save/restore the desktop- and window-position and size
- several internal changes to the julia* variations, additionaly those variations now always start with a random power index which may produce even more interesting results in the various random flame generators
- improved the gradient-from-image-creator and fixed a java7-related bug (sorting)
- delete the partially created file if saving of render state fails
- hexnixD, hexaplay3D, popcorn2_3D, cubicLattice_3D, disc3D, cubic3D, roundspher3D, post_spin_z, pre_spin_z, loonie_3D, inflateZ_1 … inflateZ_6, foci_3D, scry_3D and waves2_3D variation by Larry Berlin
- phoenix_julia variation by TyrantWave
- FIXED: saving the render state of flames containing the nBlur variation now works

Just click the "Random flames" button to start playing around and have fun :-)

You can download the new version at the projects web page: www.andreas-maschke.com/?page_…

I'm new to J-Wildfire and I can not figure out how to save the images I make as a .PNG or .JPG file. The only save option available is the supported .flame file for JWF. No .PNG or .JPG file save options are available.
Can you tell me how this is done? Or am I doing something wrong?

If you press the "Render" button a file dialog is presented where you can chose where to save the image. If oyu use the interactive renderer then you use the "Save image" button to save the current image. You can not save the preview image.

It is possible to combine/integrate it with blender ? (The rendering software)

Hmm, currently there are no plans regarding this. Which kind of integration do you have in mind? Some texture-generating-wizard?
I do not work with blender and therefore do not know the interface. But I think fractal flames can fit great (as background or object texture) in 3D renderings.

Did the download and tried but nothing happened? Did just as said in the instructions but all I get when I run start.bat is a message that the command java in the start.bat file is not recognized. Also can not open anything else: the start.sh file is not recognized and the j-wildfire-launcher.jar file is just a normal file that is opened as a compressed file with WinRar.
I do have Java 7 on my system (build 1.7.0_05-b05) but Wildfire seems to do absolutely nothing?

Windows 7 Prof 64 bit

There are several ways to resolve this, your system seems not to be configured to run Java apps (normally a *.jar file should be launched and not be decompressed after double-clicking at it :-) ) The easiest way is probably to edit the *.bat file and to replace the command "java" by the complete path to the java.exe - embedded into quotes, e. g. "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe".

I can run Java apps, both on- and offline? But I did add that line "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" to the start.bat file and now I get the first screen. But as soon as I press Start ... nothing happens again? A lot of stuff is showing in the debug mode, will mail that to you.

Yep, that 64bit Java makes all the difference :P
Also made a first test render, see [link] ... and have to say: you created a little gem here. Great program, thanx!!!

And I have added some note at the download site regarding the 64Bit

Have fun :-)

Sry, but such postings do not help at all. If you don't report specific problems/ask specific questions, nobody can help you. You did the same at the JWildfire users group and got lots of replies from people which offered their help... but you did not even respond. Please note that we all do this for free in our little spare time after regular work!

Best regards

I DID indeed Respond to the GROUP on FB! Talkied with Tom & Katie ... and THEY offered help ... as I had no idea as to what specifics where to ask!! I was able to up-load screen shots where
they were able to see to offer. IF I had done that here on dA how many pictures would I have to up-load ??? Who would answer ??? So I'm SORRY if YOU are upset, but I am and will get help. I hope that I find this JWF as interesting as the images I'm finding. Good that you have created something that fractalists will enjoy using.

OK, sorry, I did not see the conversation that took place after the post I was referring to. This is why I spent the halve night on releasing the new version ;-)
But I still did not get the point of your post. You just wrote that you "do not like this!". This is your opinion which everyone has to respect, you may like or dislike what you want.
Was this just the intention of this post: to tell people that you don't like the software or the update or the launcher or ...? Or are are you looking for help? I cant read any thoughts, not even from my wife ;-)

Best regards

:( Sorry Me Too. I don't know where I posted & it was probably a very bad day for me. (Cancer is back & other issues) .. but to think I could just run it I guess - like the Apo. But I am still having problems. Just today re-installed(downloaded) and got a lot more things than I had before ?? and it still tells me Java wrong ? but I really have Not tried it today ... as too many launchers to start the program. Maybe that is my main issue. I tried again last night and cannot see the full screen in order to operate the program ... but again . that was last night - so I will try again later today.
(right now I'm trying to get my MBF to work!) - the lite will !?
And APO ~ because of my issues - and my Dad having Cancer (back) after surgery in Sept .. me falling twice and breaking 1st my right wrist in February (just b4 my BD) & 2nd was May 1st when fell and totally tore out and broke my left shoulder &(spending 7 days in Hospital) ...so not much of any Programs have been done since December
U hope that gives you a little insight along with the fact that my memory is bad with both long & short term memory loss....so I have to keep things simple.
Hope this helps ... and hope you understand. I really do appreciate what you and the others do.
HUGS to you & yours!

I'm really sorry to hear that and send you the best wishes.

If you launch the software (by double-clicking at the file start.bat under Windows), there should occur 3 windows:
1. at first the launcher which let you specify some options for JWildfire, it has the button labelled "Start" at the bottom
2. after pressing the "Start" button the launcher should disappear and two new windows appear:
2a) the (small) Welcome-Window with some useful links, you can close this by pressing the "Enter" button
2b) the (large) Main window

At which step do you have problems?

Andreas, you know how much I love J-Wildfire. It is a wonderful program and you and I have watched some beginners develop very quiuckly with J-Wildfire on our Facebook group. Myself included, your work has brought happiness to many people with a need to create. Thank you for all your special work!

Wonderful job Andreas. Your work makes me exceedingly happy when I start making fractals. J_Wildfire allows the true creative process to unwind. Once you begin to understand the process you can create fractals according to your eye and technical knowledge. But, you can create very proficient fractals without technical understanding. That is what is appealing to the beginners and you and I have seen a lot of beginners excel very quickly.

Yes, this a really fun part: to give a friend who never even though about fractals before the tool... and see him not able to stop moving triangles :D

yes, it is great fun isn't it. When I teach people over Skype and then see their faces when they can really make something beautiful. Teaching Adrian was a real joy. He got it real fast. Catherine got it fast also. Her husband is a professional artist.

Easy: you can use it to create cool backgrounds for MB3D renders! ;-)
Serious, I just started to render most of my works at 300 dpi HDR! This means about 130 MB per image, LOL :D
